Children & Students
Our rivers, streams, and land in Lawrence County are great places for both us and the animals. We humans need water to drink and stay clean. We also like to play and go fishing in clean oceans, rivers, and streams. Fish that live in those rivers and streams need clean water to survive. To be sure that the water is still safe for us and the fish, it's important to keep gross stuff out of the water.

Sometimes, we make the water dirty by letting soap and other harmful things go from our houses to the rivers and streams through something called stormwater. Stormwater is the water that goes down the storm drains that you see in the street outside your home. Click on one of the links below to learn more about stormwater and how you can help.

Teachers
Educators play a pivotal role in ensuring that students understand the connection between the choices they make and local water quality. You can help spread the word about storm water and other water quality issues by educating your students and helping them to be environmentally conscious citizens. Remember that what you teach your students will impact people outside of your classroom. Students often share the information that they learn in school with friends and relatives, which ultimately will help to spread the word about stormwater pollution prevention.

Below are links to information about educational workshops, sample lesson plans, learning guides, and other links to educational materials to help you get started.
